This is it, yesterday was a blast to all Cebuanos in the country. Sea of people from different area of the Queen city Of the South, Cebu was observed. Not just that, all walk of life celebrated with the grand fiesta of Snr. Sto. Niño. In line with the celebration is the Sinulog Festival 2013Grand Mardi Gras ( Grand Parade)

Cebu Bloggers Society Inc Turns 5

Before I was drafting this post, I tried to check my yahoomail account in which started it all. It was in yahoogroups which I founded the Cebu Bloggers Society last February 14, 2008. Eleven days after, two blogger friends, Mr. Jerry Gervacio and Kevin Ray Chua joined the not so known online community in Cebu. Days after days, many Cebu Bloggerswere encouraged to join with one aim “to promote Cebu through Blogs”  and later on, we did it!

Mark Monta (CBSi Founder under tanom2000 id) founded the organization and then joined by two other Cebu Bloggers Kevin Ray Chua (Kevinray_chua) and Jerry Gervacio ( jggpowershift)

On February 14, 2013, Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. will be celebrating it’s 5th year anniversary. CBSi has always been the “first” in some online activities. Not to mention our very own Bloggers Social Responsibility program, World Bloggers Day every May 2, Visayas Blogging Summit (2011) , among others. CBSI was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2010.

In behalf of the organization, I am glad to have Harold’s Hotel and Smart Communication as our partners in this momentous affair with the theme “ACTNow”. This “Appreciation Night” will recognize members and partners who made significant contributions to the premier blogging organization in Cebu and I’m proud to have these 52 CBSi members in our list who are indeed becoming influential not just in social media sites but of course, in their respective niches.

Unlike other people, Facecebu.Net author, Mark M. Monta did not deny the truth that he is 26 years young. On March 2, 2013 (Saturday ), Mark , Founder of Cebu Bloggers Society Inc., will add one more year to his life. I can vividly remember the first time I saw you. You were tall and lanky and pretty quiet for my taste. Being an introvert, I immediately felt uneasy. I wasn’t sure anymore if joining Cebu Bloggers Society was the right choice. But thank God, first impressions didn’t have to be always true, and I’m glad I was wrong. You were one of the most accommodating people I’ve ever met. You’ve proven yourself to be such a good friend.

Mark, thank you for always making me feel needed. It always made me feel that I have a purpose and that I have something good to give, especially to the organization. Thank you for believing in the essence of CBS and for trusting its members. I do believe that a huge part of our growth within the organization is mainly because you’ve given all of us self-worth.

February 23, 2013 – A total of Nine Bloggers from Metro Manila and Cebu, which includes FaceCebu.Net Author, came to visit and witness the Flower Festival of Baguio City, The Panagbenga Festival 2013. Aside from the beautiful and accommodating faces who welcomed us during our arrival, Azalea Residences was so kind of preparing the 2 Bedroom type for our unforgettable stay.

Interior wise, this two bed type offer a blend of simplicity yet comfy enough to help ease  our stress from six to eight hours of Travel which was luckily sponsored by Sun Cellular. Televisions with cable connection were also installed in each of our rooms that brought entertainment while waiting for the time to pass. With contemporary luxury, Azalea Residences Baguio is not being run by an air conditioned system since it’s really cold inside. Chandelier fans centered and controlled the coldness during the day. There’s no mini-bar available but a large refrigerator in the Kitchen and Dining Area. We even made a strawberry vodka c/o LaagCebu.com author during our last night stay. The bathroom is equipped with hot and cold shower with clean bath kit and towels. Unlike other hotels, I saw no cockroach at our room which is a good sign of a clean and well-managed building.

Just got home, I mean in Azalea. Wooots!

Strawberry Vodka

 They provide breakfast buffet during six to ten in the morning. Waiters in their presentable uniform, served the gang even though it is supposed to be a self-service buffet. Different dishes are catered. To name a few, we tasted Baguio Longganisa, Chicken/Pork Adobo, Hotdogs, vegetable salads, wheat bread with strawberry spread, fresh fruits and other courses proudly made from Baguio. Morning drinks for breakfast are also available like fresh milk, hot chocolate, coffee, orange juice and others. Indeed, high class in serving and hospitality, that’s Azalea Residences Baguio!

“I bow to no King, I only owe allegiance to my people” , the phrase that triggered the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521. And who said that? He’s no other than our first Hero,Lapu-lapu.  On April 27, 2013 , the City of Lapu-lapu and it’s people will celebrate it’s 492nd year of commemorating the “Kadaugan sa Mactan”, a special celebration remembering the greatness and bravery of Lapu-lapu and his clan in winning  the Battle against Magellan and his company.

Kadaugan sa Mactan is a breakthrough event of Lapu-Lapu Tourism, Cultural, and Historical Affairs Commission headed by Tourism Chief Hembler V. Mendoza, Tourism Chairman Damian T. Gomez, Jr. and Co-Chairman Hon. Harry A. Radaza with the support of Hon. Mayor Paz C. Radaza and other City Officials.  This event is also co-presented by Pepsi, Aboitizland, San Miguel Beer, Megaworld – The Mactan Newtown and Pagcor.

Kadaugan Sa Mactan Street Party Highlights Rampada, Posts Schedule of Activities

Kadaugan Sa Mactan, a yearly celebration of Lapu-Lapu’s greatness and victory in the beautiful island of Mactan won’t be complete without the famous Kadaugan Street Party or KSP. KSP is on it’s 3rd year on April 26 - 27and will highlight different kind of activities such as the  renowned RAMPADA, a fancy street dance parade that highlights as take-off celebration of Kadaugan sa Mactan, coined from two Cebuano words “rampa” (ramp) and “ karsada “ ( street ). It showcases a mix wild street dance and kaleidoscope of costumes epitomized by Datu and Hara expressing the merry sentiments of the modern native islanders of Mactan. It is the Victory Party Celebration of Datu Lapu-Lapu’s won battle against the foreign aggressor Ferdinand Magellan.  It is celebrated every last Saturday of April prior to or after the re-enactment of the Kadaugan Sa Mactan.


Aside from the RAMPADA, this year’s KSP levels up  as they offer different kind of entertainment like Cosplay Contest, Live Bands, Gourment Walk by Mactan Island Resorts, Fireworks Show, Car Show, Food stalls, Selling Booths and a lot more which will surely satisfy every Cebuanos and foreigners who will join the event.  Here are some of the highlights and contests:

Special Program for Employment of Students or SPES is a proud program of McDonald's Philippinesfor Cebu Youth. It helps underpriviledged students or out of school youth to continue their study and at the same time work as McDonald's employee.

Present during the press conference were representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Jessica Uy and Atty. Jose B Ogang; McDonald’s Philippines Vice President for Human Capital Group Chona Torre and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Fidel Magno. Each representative discussed the progress of SPES and its success rate in Cebu, key criteria for hiring and screening, and day-to-day training programs that SPES students undergo with McDonald’s. McDonald’s Philippines continues SPES partnership for the youth with DOLE in Cebu

Cebu, PHILIPPINES – Dedicated to its goal of uplifting Filipino communities across the country, McDonald’s strengthens its continuing partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), establishing its progress and success in the employment of underprivileged students and out of school youth in Cebu.

McDonald’s Philippines and DOLE made their partnership official in March 2012, following Republic Act Nos. 7323 and 9547’s call to encourage students to pursue their education through employment. Subsequent to these laws is RA 8759, creating the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) to facilitate employment of the beneficiaries, located in capital towns of provinces, key cities, and other strategic locations.

“We at McDonald’s understand the need for programs like these – we want to help in providing a brighter future for the youth, especially for those who find it difficult to do so,” says Chona Torre, McDonald’s Philippines Vice President for Human Capital Group. “With SPES, McDonald’s Philippines and DOLE are bound by the common goal of giving the Filipino youth labor opportunities that enable them to fund their education and have a more positive tomorrow to look forward to.”

SPES enables employment for the students in partner private sectors, and McDonald’s Philippines has heeded the call by offering over 3,600 slots for students to be crew members across the country.

In Cebu, close to 100 students have undergone SPES in McDonald’s in 2012, twenty-two of which are now undergoing training to be regular employees of McDonald’s due to their excellent performance. Due to the success of the program in Cebu, McDonald’s is looking to hire over 300 grantees more this year to be done in three batches starting March to December.

“Each student will be with us for 52 days, earning the salary that can help support their education,” explains Torre. Part of the SPES beneficiaries’ responsibilities are maintaining the cleanliness of restaurant areas, proper preparation of beverages and desserts, and providing assistance to local store marketing team during events or McCelebrations held at McDonald’s restaurants.

Also present during the press conference were representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment and the Public Employment Service Office. Each representative took the floor to discuss the progress of SPES and its success rate in Cebu, key criteria for hiring and screening, and day-to-day training programs that SPES students undergo with McDonald’s.

“We are very happy with the program, especially because we have been given the opportunity to work with DOLE. This partnership is a key driver in enabling us to broaden our reach, and to expand our efforts to be able to provide more employment opportunities for the youth,” Torre concludes.
