Watsons Safer Mt. Mago Hike, Standing In Three Cebu Provinces

$

Last Saturday, together with my girlfriends, we conquered the infamous Mt. Mago in northern Cebu! It was just a week of preparation and we thought it was an easy hike as mentioned by some mountaineers' in their blogs. But we got "lucky" since the day before the hike, Cebu was experiencing heavy rains and as a result, we were trekking a muddy route going to the top! By the way, Mt. Mago hike is a fulfilling one, why? Because when you are able accomplish this so called "Boundary Climb" then you will be standing in three provinces of Cebu, namely Danao, Tuburan and Carmen!

At 8:10 AM, we arrived in Carmen Market to buy some lunch and of course, this Blogger is a chicken addict. So, the girls decided to buy lechon Chicken at Ogis.
At 8:30 AM, we got a motorcyle ride (Habal-Habal) from Carmen Market. Fare is PHP 100.00
By 9:10 AM, we arrived in Santikan Elementary School to secure the motorcycles. Good thing, our Habal-Habal driver decided to become our Guide going to the peak. It was his second or third time and we were amazed how professional and humble he is.
At 9:15 AM, we started the walk from Santikan to Mt. Mago Peak.
At 10:55 AM, we arrived at Mt. Mago Peak. It was almost an hour of hike and it was a "mid-easy-mid-average" walk. So it is recommended to wear hiking shoes most especially if it's raining - muds are everywhere!
At 11:21 AM, we started going down - going back to Santikan Elementary School.
By 1:30 PM, we finally arrived in Santikan Elementary School where the Habal-habal (motorcycle) was parked. We actually arrived late because in between our walks, we couldn't resist the beauty of nature and we got some snaps!

Bantayan Island, My First Time Experience!

You may find this funny but yes, you read it right - it was my first time in Cebu's top beach destination, Bantayan Island. Together with CBS Blogger friends, we enjoyed the white sand, clear blue water and of course, the foods that locals can offer. That quick trip was made possible by Arlei Travel and Tourswhich brought us to the island safely.

It was early 5 in Saturday morning when everybody met at a food chain in The Walk, IT Park. We were all excited to enjoy another summer weekend. With Arlei's "rent a car" service, we had an amazing trip riding a Coaster going to Hagnaya Port. Aside from a comfortable ride, the driver is friendly and accommodating. So, how's our Bantayan Island experience?

Here are some activities I recommend when you visit Bantayan Island.

1. Island Hopping - You should visit Hilantagaan island for a quick snorkeling activity and then go directly to Virgin Island for a romantic Sunset experience.

2. Visit Obo-ob Mangrove Forest - I  did not try this last weekend but base on my online friends, this spot can give you another way of experiencing the island aside from beaches and white sands.

A post shared by Mutya Martin (@mutyamartin) on

3. Tour the island with a Bike or Motorcycle - You can rent a bike or motorcycle to be used during the Tour. Locals from the port or in local Market area can offer you in just PHP 150.00, you can already enjoy the island within 24 hours.

Travelers Couch Blogger in Bantayan Island

4. Stargazing in the beachfront under a Tent - There are public beach fronts which you can set-up your tent with your friends or loved ones. But if you are lucky to have booked a room in a resort which is beachfront, then you can get those blanket or towel, set them up in the white sand and enjoy the stars at night.

5. Enjoy local foods / Visit Food District - Everybody loves to visit MJ Square and I don't disagree because comfortable foods and other fast foods are available there. But personally, if you are in hurry and hungry, please do not try Chef Panyang Restaurants and I mean all branches inside MJ Square. Here are the reasons:
a. For 3-4 branches of Chef Panyang inside MJ Square, they only have one and only Kitchen which will cook all the orders of the 3-4 branches. (Which I think the reason of 45 mins to 1 hour waiting time)
b. Untrained Personnel - Waiters will get your order in details but food will come "not in details".

When in Leyte, Canigao and Kalanggaman islands always come into our minds. But less we know, Leyte has a lot to offer to all Tourists and Locals who seek for an awesome getaway this summer. A weekend before Labor Day, a group of Cebuanos visited the historic land of Leyte. Are you ready to travel with me?

Before you proceed, here's a video compilations of our Leyte trip highlighting Cuatro Islas and Karap-agan Falls

Cuatro Islas

Since I started to love traveling, I've been hearing about these four islands situated in the Southwestern sea of Leyte. But all I thought they're just mini islands and I mean islets but after that weekend, I was wrong. So, as Ian Limpangog of Freedomwall.net designed our itinerary, we started our special Labor Day travel in Cuatro Islas. Summer is indeed real! It was a very hot day when we arrived in Hilongos Port of Leyte. We then headed to their Tourism office to do some reservations. Their port is located behind the Municipal Hall of Hilongos. Just a heads-up (before you proceed reading), we were disappointed that Inopacan and Hindang are having issues on these islands. So basically, we visited the three islands namely Digyo, Mahaba, Apid except for Himokilan which is part of Hindang. Our guide mentioned to us that we need to add another amount of Money in order to visit Himokilan. I hope these neighboring town will fix this kind of problem in order to boost their tourism.

The Cuatro Islas escapade was held on a Friday morning until early Saturday as we decided to spend overnight in Canigao island. Third time's the charm - yes, I visited the island for three times already and I'm still loving this island. But for this article, I'm highlighting Cuatro Islas and that amazing Mahayahay Waterfalls. So for Canigao, you may check my other articles in the link below.

Aside from Canigao Island, Matalom has a special gem for us - it is called Mahayahay Falls or locally known as Karap-agan Falls. A waterfall situated in Barangay Mahayahay, this wide, two-layered falls gives a spectacular view with a combination of clear water for swimming and some rocks and trees that compliment this amazing gift from Mother Nature. Let the pictures speak it all!

According to Miriam Dictionary, Solea means "a platform or a raised part of the floor in front of the inner sanctuary in an Eastern Orthodox church on which the singers stand and the faithful receive communion". But in Victor Wahing Street, Alegria Cordova, Cebu, Solea is not just a word, it's a family-centered garden resort which is set to offer more than just beaches, pools and dishes.

13 Reasons Why Visit Ilocos Province (Vigan, Paoay, Laoag, Burgos, Bangui and Pagudpud)

"A picture paints a thousand words." said the very famous and over-used quote. But true to its meaning, you could not appreciate a place in just plain words. One should experience, touch and feel it to be appreciated. Since 2014, we have this yearly habit to visit at least one province of our country, Philippines - we always choose Summer season because we find it a perfect time to escape from each of our daily busy lives. Together with my relatives and cousins, we decided to conquer (I guess not the appropriate word) Vigan City, one of the Seven New Urban Cities Wonder of the World and its neighbor municipalities and cities.

Blogger Mark Monta in Kapurpurawan Rock Formation

Why did we choose these places this year? I'm Mark Monta, FaceCebu Author and welcome to your tape! Luh! Not amazing enough to copy Hannah Baker but hey, here are my 13 reasons why you should visit Ilocos Province of Luzon, specifically places like Vigan, Laoag, Paoay, Burgos, Bangui and Pagudpud.

1. VIGAN: Vigan City is One of 7 New Urban Wonders of the World and if you wish to get a romantic and more dramatic view of Calle Crisologo, visit the street at night before dawn (12 midnight) so that there will be fewer people. Enjoy Calle Crisologo!

Cafe Yagam, Get A Taste Of True Cordilleran Course

Last week, we visited Ilocos, Northwest of Luzon. It was a very long trip spending most of our time inside the bus but all worth it! So after that Ilocos Tour, we did a side-trip to the City of Pines, the Philippines Summer Capital, Baguio City. After reading the itinerary, I got excited - not because it was my second time but finally, a cold weather during Summer!

That Baguio trip was the best so far! Not to mention, I finally experienced the midnight market ( Oh! I bought two tank tops - for PHP 180 and two long sleeves - For PHP 40 ) but the best story for that trip? I was able to experience a real Cordilleran Course! Thanks to Cafe Yagam!

Cafe Yagam is not your usual Resto in Baguio City. Almost 3 years old, Cafe Yagam offers authentic Cordilleran Course. The Cafe prepared the foods just like how the people in Cordillera cook their dishes. In fact, most of Cafe Yagam's Chefs come from Cordillera.  Now, let me give you some introduction to my favorites dishes that won't failed your taste buds! (wink)

Of course, the dinner won't start without tasting their best seller, Lemon Grass!

First of all, here's my favorite, the Pinikpikan With Etag! This dish consist of Smokey chicken stew with salted cured meat, served with brown rice and dessert. I just love how the Chicken is prepared!

Of course, the manager wanted us to try their all time favorite Yagam Sausage. First served was Yagam Sausage with Sweet Potato.

Then, there wen Yagam Sausage with Red Rice. Don't you know that Red Rice is healthier than Brown Rice?

And for the dessert, we have Wanchila! It's a Kalinga sticky Rice with a latek! Very good sweets to end the dinner.

Summer Ender : Hiking At Bocaue Peak, Cebu City!

Nah! There's no ending for Summer season - I just love this time of the year! (Of course, next to Christmas and New Year!) But it's not good to have a hot season all throughout the year. So, I decided to name that last "Hurrah" as our Summer Ender activity. Because the struggles going to the top of Bocaue Peak are definitely real for non-hikers like me, so when we made it to the top of the mountain, we did our hurrah! Victory it is!

Some Bloggers and a group of friends went on a hike last Sunday. At first, we decided to go to RCPI Tower via long route but when we passed beyond the Seven Towers, we finally settled to experience the breath-taking views of the City and the Mountain as we stepped at the Peak of Bocaue! Yes, two side views in one Peak (Actually a panoramic view of Cebu)!

It took us almost four hours to reach the Seven Towers located in the mountainous area of Barangay Babag, Cebu City. That climb was not easy as there are many muddy and slippery paths we conquered. Not to mention the heavy rain that we enjoyed during our way back to the City. We appreciate the patience and effort that "Tibu Padidit" have given to us. So basically, there are at least two choices in going to Bocaue Peak but we chose the trail from Napo to Bocauethen Bonbon as we went back to the City in the afternoon.

Hello Second Tower!!!

No wonder, it is a training area of some of the mountain climbers. A number of obstacles welcomed us on our way to the top. There are thick shrub leaves and big lush of grasses, short hair-raising steeps, slippery downward slopes - to name a few ingredients of our adventure going to the top!

Summer is not yet over as our beloved flip-flop, Havaianas brings back the most anticipated Customization event of the year, the Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) 2017! I was born in the year 1987, so I can relate to the 90's generations - why am I telling this? Oh dear, #MYOH2017 sets foot into a different time and, hands down, it's one of the best decades ever, the 90's!!

MYOH2017-Cebu-Poster-Sm-AyalaCenterCebu
MYOH2017 Poster
Every year, Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) lets Havaianaticos step into a different place with the fun themes that inspire the total flip-flop customization experience. And this year is the coolest ever! Here are my top 5 reasons why?!

1. It's the 90's baby!

90's Fashion. Pic by ELLE
90's Fashion. Pic by ELLE
We already experienced the colorful Brazil, sunny Hawaii, and kawaii Japan! This time, let's do the 90's! The '90s was an awesome decade. From the music to the fashion, the movies to the TV shows, the toys and games, to the slang, and the list of reasons goes on and on. It was a simpler time.

90's Video Games, Super Mario

2. Pixel-inspired Commemorative Pair is Love. <3 <3 <3

It comes in a classic black sole with pixels, inspired by the 8-bit video games that defined the decade. Cue in the nostalgia.

3. Throwback 90's-themed Pins are total must-have!

The pins are also '90s-themed and they are totally rad. The choices include throwback icons of a TV, cassette tape, boom box, and a video game icon. There's a pin that simply says “I ❤ 90s” for those who lived through this rad time.

4. Enjoy your "Glow in the dark" Pins. (wink)

Back in the day, bedrooms were a whole lot cooler if they were glow-in-the-dark. So, Havaianas has come up with glow-in-the-dark pins that come in five super fun designs: a lightning bolt, smiley, star, and lips.

5. MYOH2017 has two legs in Cebu, Ayala Center Cebu (June 9-12) and SM City Seaside Cebu (June 15-18)

In Cebu, this year’s MYOH will have two legs.  Head to All Flip-Flops Ayala Center Cebu on June 9 to 12 and All Flip-Flops SM Seaside City on June 15 to 18 for something very cool, or as ‘90s kids would say, totally phat. For the first time ever, Havaianas makes use of 3D printing technology that can print pins before your eyes.

Amazing Portraits During HuaweiP10 "Behind Portrait Photography" Workshop In Cebu

I thought taking portraits is as easy as clicking that button of the camera or hitting that circular tool in our digital camera. But after attending two sessions of Huawei's "Behind Portrait Photography" Workshop, I learned a lot - more than a lot! Sorry for this exaggeration but Ms. Sarah Black and Sir Veejay Villafranca really shared amazing views and suggestions during those activities. One of the most important notes in getting amazing portrait shot is the tool - the kind of Camera and this time, I found it with Huawei's latest smartphone engineered with Leica, the Huawei P10.

Huawei partners with Cebu Bloggers Society for a Portrait Photography Workshop
Huawei partners with Cebu Bloggers Society for a Portrait Photography Workshop
On June 1, a group of Cebu Media and Bloggers gathered in Chateau De Busay for a preview on what would this workshop looks like with the Country's Top Fashion Photographer, Ms. Sarah Black. “The most iconic portraits are defined by outstanding lighting and clarity of details. Working as a lifestyle photographer for many years now, I always place a premium on how these two elements are reflected in every shot I make, and the Huawei P10 makes this very convenient. They instantly give dramatic touches to every photo, revealing interesting stories or realities of every subject that are rarely captured even through words,” Sara Black shares.

Now, here are some of the amazing portrait shots that our friends from Cebu Bloggers Society took during the June 1 workshop.

For “UNO's Modern Filipino Taste: A Filipino Feast for All Senses”, the two inventive chefs updated old-time favorites, popular comfort food, and classic dishes by the subtle addition of new and enticing flavors, and presenting them in ways that catch attention and whet the appetite.

Says Chef Roland, “Cooking, like any facet of culture and art, keep evolving and transforming in tune with changing lifestyles and the development of technology. The concept behind ‘UNO's Modern Filipino Taste: A Filipino Feast for All Senses’ looks to tradition for inspiration, but extends to the possibilities of the future. The tastes we presented find a delicious common ground between heritage and technology. Thus, the flavors are familiar but surprising.”

In some other parts of the globe, Father's Day is just another ordinary day to live. But for me it's not! Do you remember Anne Geddes's famous quotes? It says "Any man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad." Indeed, Father's Day is for special Daddies all around the world but as a son or a daughter, do you know how to make your father happy?

Father's Day 2017
Father's Day 2017

Aside from giving your "Dada" headaches, show them good deeds everyday. Do your household chores, be very good at school, take care of your brothers and sisters but here's a personal recommendation for you - why not surprise your Father with some personalized special stuff? Every year, I always make sure there's special dishes for Father's Day dinner. I won't forget that my Father's favorite is Fruit Salad. So, my mother and I made sure to make it special for him. But this year, I was thinking of giving him something that he cannot forget for the rest of his amazing life.

As your father's son or daughter, you should know what are those special things that he keeps for life. How about those Timex wristwatches that he used to hide inside his closet? Do you remember those action or mystery/thriller books he put cleanly in the cabinet? When you were young, you used to mess with those books and Dada gave you that angry-cute stare? Yes! Those kind of things are your father special stuff! So what's the plan? Surprise him with a personalized watch box or maybe give him a customized cafetiere for his morning brewed Starbucks Coffee!

In this social media era, Millennials can actually deliver amazingly in just one click. So, give Daddy extraordinary surprise, Gifts Less Ordinary! I assure you, your father will be very much proud of you!

[PRESS RELEASE] Cebu, Philippines— A festive island celebration was held June 24, 2017 at The Clove on the Quay, Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island. Joined and supported by the one and only, Cebu Bloggers Society, the featured event ended with a bang!

Here's an overview video of the amazing Ariya Dragon Boat Team!

Leading power and marine industrial hardware supplier Dynamic Power Weichai, together with Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons, cast off its first official event with the media and special guests from various industries to experience the sport of dragon boating.

The event featured two traditional dragon boat ceremonies:

Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons
Dotting of the eyes
The Dotting of the Eyes, or the Awakening of the Dragon Ceremony, is an ancient Chinese tradition where the eyes of the dragonhead are literally dotted red to awaken the spirit of the dragon. The eye dotting ceremony is performed in countries around the world as a celebration. This heralds the opening of paddling season to call on the dragon spirit to protect the boat and the paddlers.

The Blessing of the Dragon Boat
The Blessing of the Dragon Boat christened the brand new 20-seater standard Champion™ boat purchased and generously given to the team by Dynamic Power Weichai, the first of its kind in the province of Cebu.

With this amazing gift, Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons pledges to clean up the Mactan Channel every time we go out to paddle. A small token of thanks from our team to our biggest sponsor; one that we hope will make a big difference for the beautiful island of Cebu,” said Team Manager Enrique Sanchez.

Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons

Combining fun, fitness, team work, and a respect for nature and its elements is what our team is all about. The challenges of moving the sport of dragon boat forward is there, but with help, we can spread the love for this sport,” Sanchez enthusiastically concludes.

After the ceremonies, the festivities continued with an invitation for guests to join the team for a sunset paddle. As the day waned, drumbeaters, fire dancers, fun food stalls like cotton candy, popcorns and ice cream; back-to-back performances from talented lady DJs Jen Weigel and Nish; the Ariya Sling cocktail, a rum-based concoction bespoke for the team, and sumptuous finger foods from The Clove on the Quay set the mood for sunset on to a night of more merriment.

So, if you're wondering what is this sports all about? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions and of course, some answers.

Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons

WHAT IS DRAGON BOAT?
Dragon boating is a competitive water sport that involves a crew of 20 paddlers. We sit in a 2×10 grid and paddle in unison (Standard Boat). A drummer, or caller, is responsible for motivating everyone during the races and helping the boat keep the timing of the strokes. A steer in the back is responsible for piloting the boat.
DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO JOIN?
Absolutely not! Some of our best current paddlers came in with no experience. Don’t hesitate to try something new! We believe that technique, strength, and skill can be developed with time.
IS THERE A TRY-OUT PROCESS?
Yes. We are open to new recruits always. Tryouts allow us to gauge your ability to push yourself and stay motivated while motivating others.
DO I NEED TO BE ATHLETIC TO JOIN?
Even though dragon boat is a very intensive physical sport, we will train you to gain endurance and get in shape. We learn and train together. In addition to training for races, we train for overall fitness and strength.
Ariya Dynamic Power Dragons

HOW MANY HOURS OF PRACTICE ARE THERE PER WEEK?
Current practice schedule are: Pool training during Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM to build endurance and establish paddling form. Land training is only on Wednesdays, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, for stamina and strength. Seawater practices are Saturday and Sunday, 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
WHERE ARE PRACTICES?
Seawater practices are at the Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island. Pool training is at UC Mambaling. We train on land at the Cebu City Sports Complex (formerly Abellana), at Juana Osmeña Boulevard. Carpool rides are available with the team; just let us know if you need a lift!
WILL WE NEED OUR OWN GEAR FOR PRACTICE?
We will supply paddles and PFDs (personal floatation devices or life jackets) for you at our seawater and pool practices. You are not required to know how to swim.
what should i wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that does not hold or absorb moisture. Tighter fighting clothes that does not catch water and drag is best, like dri fit material or rash guard material. Be as light as possible on the boat. Wear flip flops or aquasocks on the boat. Bring a dry set of clothes for after practice.  And water! Water! Water! Never forget to Hydrate.

It took us 30-45 minutes to reach Momo Beach House from Tagbilaran City Tourist Port. Situated in the Northeast of the famous Alona Beach, Momo offers a homy-type of accommodation to Locals and Tourists who would love to just chill and relax with the clear water of the beach or pool, white sands, good food and of course, amazing and hospitable staff and employees.

For health and wellness enthusiast, Momo has SeaChi Yoga for a unique kind of retreat. But for a father and son get together, a traditional fishing is good for both. Just a like a sweet, untouchable, adorable little child, Amorita Resort can give you happiness that everybody deserves. I always consider Cebu as the best and only paradise I adore but less do I know there's a lot of promising "Garden of Eden" out there. One of them is my love, my sweet, my little darling, Amorita Resort in Panglao Bohol.

Sometimes gloomy weather brings sadness to people. I, myself used to experience that but just lately, I see this as an opportunity to uplift myself and be a better person. But yesterday, a number of Cebu Bloggers jumped to excitement when the sound of the Van arriving at Momo Beach House broke the tranquility of the online influencers' social media session. Amidst the dark clouds above the beautiful Bohol, I found myself ready in the couch with my beloved travel bag covered in shades of blue. Then the voice inside my mind shouted, "To Amorita we go!!!"

Refreshing welcome drinks!

The only Resort in Panglao Bohol with the best view, Amorita Resort is indeed the choice for a romantic stay with your love-one or maybe for a family affair. Amorita has two infinity pools but the best one for me is the one beside the reception or waiting area. It has at least 5.5 feet deep with a dazzling view of the white sand in Alona Beach. During twilight, boats of different sizes come to the shore of Panglao giving it an incredible view to Amorita visitors while dipping and enjoying some drinks in the pool. Do you remember the finale episode of Game Of Thrones Season 6 when a number of ships sailed under Daenerys’ Fleet? It's something like those but from Amorita, it's more adorable and pleasing to the eyes and heart.

With Condé Nast Johansen Excellence Award 2017 for Best in Service, no wonder for Amorita Resort the only Philippine resort to win the prestigious award. I personally encountered the amazing hospitality that a lot of the Resort's employees are showing. For me, service is not just about getting a job done. It's more on sticking with the customers until they feel comfortable and satisfied. This is what I saw and experienced in Amorita. I remember how many times I asked the waitress from their Restaurants for a glass of water and how they were glad of serving it. Yes, very simple order but for a "water-kind" of man, it's everything for me. Kudos to my little darling Amorita!

Of course, our stay won't be complete without tasting the culinary pride of the Resort. We had our fine dining at the Tomar Tapas x Bar - known for its authentic Spanish dishes. I never forget the seafood taste of Paella Negra and the Churros for dessert? So good! During Dinner, we had a blast with various choices in Saffron Restaurant's buffet. I believe everything served that night needed to be in our tummy but those delicious seafoods were my priorities. I heard they are serving baby back ribs but I didn't see it yesterday so I just finished my crispy shrimp. Amorita is a man-made heaven in Panglao Bohol!

Operating for almost 3 years already, Cafe Tiala opened its door to Locals and Tourists last March 2014. Cafe Tiala is owned and operated by Korean Couples. They got various choices of drinks - hot or cold, foods and of course, some Korean dishes such as kimchi, bibimbap and some burgers and fries. They also got grilled dishes and some finger foods. From a budget of 100 to 200 pesos, you can already grab a smoothie or shake and pair them with some Tuna Sandwich or with their famous Honey bread. But if you are craving for some spicy Ramen or just chilling with their vast options of Desserts like Cheesecake and Pancakes, then Cafe Tiala is indeed the best place to dig in!
