If you are my avid reader and social media follower, you would know that I’m not into Political blogging. I don’t do politics articles or even politicians’ feature in this Lifestyle and Travel Blog of mine. But there’s one issue that caught my attention, this TRAIN and SSB Tax proposals.

So aside from the undying issue of killings under President Duterte administration, TRAIN and SSB are important topics that need to be discussed in the Congress or in the Senate. I won’t be talking as professional here, but using my research and other online skills, let me help you define and together understand this tax reform matters. First, let’s talk about terms.

• TRAIN – It stands for Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion
• SSB – Means Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Tax
• House Bill 292 – authored by Representatives Horacio Suansing and Estrellita Suansing. It imposes an excise tax on Sweetened Beverage products. HB 292 is part of TRAIN (House Bill 5636)
• House Bill 5636 – It will amend our Comprehensive Tax Reform Package so the government can collect more taxes.

What will happen if TRAIN bill is approved?

1.Oil excise tax rates will be adjusted gradually in the succeeding years. Diesel and essentials namely processed gas, kerosene, diesel fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas, asphalt, and bunker fuel oil will increase from P0 in 2017, to P1.75 to P3 in 2018, P3.75 to P5 in 2019 and P6 in 2020. Gas and non-essentials such as lubricating oils and greases, naphtha, regular gasoline, premium gasoline, and aviation turbo jet fuel will increase from P4.35 in 2017, to P6 to P7 in 2018, P8 to P9 in 2019 and P10 in 2020. ( Src philstar )

• Just imagine how much the fare would be if this is approved. For those Call Center Agents or Night Shifters who rely on motorcycle-taxi or Habal-Habal in coming to their respective offices, how much would they suffer in their daily lives? Not to mention other public transportations such as Jeepneys, V-Hire and Taxis. Can you imagin the fare would be?

2. A P-10-excise tax for the first year and four percent every year thereafter on all sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, coffee, juice drinks and energy drinks. The SSB tax proposes a P10 per liter tax on beverages using high-fructose corn syrup, P5 per liter on drinks using sugar, and P3 per liter on drinks using non-caloric sweeteners. How much would a poor Filipino cost for a sachet of 3-in-1 coffee? They are using this daily!

So if this will push thru, what will happen to our beloved Sari-Sari Store and micro-enterprise business in which majority of their products come from those sweetened goods? Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) chairman Jesus Lim Arranza said the implementation of the tax would cause a 40 to 60 percent sales slump in sari-sari stores and other micro-enterprises, triggered by a 25 to 50 percent price increase of basic commodities. 3. Another tax-payers group is identified as "medium taxpayers" and maybe converted to Medium
Taxpayers division following the Large Taxpayers Division should the TRAIN is approved. Meaning,
those belong to this category are companies that pay more than 30 percent of a revenue region's
collection goal. Don't you know that BIR-13 revenue regions, Cebu and Bohol, is recently identified as top500 establishments classified as “medium taxpayers,” which includes mostly construction, real estate,
and manufacturing companies in the two provinces. (Src SunStar)

What’s the advantage? 

Filipinos will be forced to observe healthy living without any sugar from any foods or beverages in our daily meals. Meaning, fewer figures on issues of Diabetes and Obesity. data from the 2017 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations show that the problem is undernutrition, not obesity which means the Government should focus on this matter rather than resolving a problem with another possible problem.


The Senate session in regards to this matter will resume in November, I’m hoping they will see how the poor Filipinos are being affected by this latest tax move. I'm hoping that this TRAIN won't arrive on its expected station.

Everybody wants to know the answers. They want to know what's real. If they're in doubt, they start creating stories and bad stuff. Even if the only goal is for the common good, there's always an issue. And of course, Best Cebu Blogs Awards (BCBA) did not escape this horror story on its 10th year.

As the founder, it saddened me hearing the news that someone is questioning the process and ways of how BCBA organizers are picking up the Finalists for the Awards. These Blogger-Volunteers who run BCBA never arrange the outcome or results! When your blog is not listed as Finalist then it needs improvement in many ways such as Search Engine Optimization or page structuring or content analysis, or images and links analysis - if they are broken, then you should work and resolve them and be back next year's nomination. It is not just about high-quality images or perfect grammar. Remember, it is a Blog, not a newspaper. BCBA is here to guide you. BCBA has always been helpful to Bloggers who truly give their best and who are very passionate about their craft. If you really care about your Blog, then you should do something about it. Build your brand well and I mean building from the core codings up to the content creations and stuff. Blogging is not just posing for a good picture - it's more on passion. I hope newbie and tenured Bloggers know these basics.

This won't be the most common questions from Cebu Bloggers but I heard this from a friend, "How Does Best Cebu Blogs Awards Pick The Finalists?" Here's a quick guide for you.

1. Nomination Phase with corresponding Mechanics of who are eligible in joining the Awards.
2. Once nominees are listed, Organizers to pick the Top 3 Finalists using a Website Analyzer Tool.  This tool can detect issues and what are the factors that need to be improved on a blog or website. In addition, it also gives a total score of the website which is our basis to pick finalists of Best Cebu Blogs Awards 2017. Starting this year, we pick the Top 3 in each Niche in order to determine the Best among the Best.
3. Among the Top 3 Finalists, our Judges from different regions of Philippines will then evaluate each Blog according to the Criteria for Judging. (see below screenshot from BCBA site)

Everybody deserves a break! Sometimes, it applies to any relationships too. A break to free yourself in a bit to replenish one's soul or maybe rejuvenate and earn another energy for a brand new you. Some choose to trek and climb a mountain but most of the people choose to go out of town to inhale some fresh air in the province. How about if I tell you that you can rejuvenate, inhale fresh air and simply relax in a place which is just a drive away from the City? I'm talking about unwinding at Solea Mactan Cebu Resort.

Last week was indeed a long week for me. I was working during Halloween. From October 30 to November 1, I was at the office accepting calls and resolving computer issues from Business Users. Yes, indeed a hell of a week but it was okay because I know I would get an amazing weekend at Solea Mactan Cebu Resort. Not just an ordinary chill but an overnight staycation at the one and only Presidential Suite of the Resort. Who's excited about this experience?

Together with other three CBS members, we drove with Uber service from IT Park to Cordova, Lapu-Lapu City. It took us like an hour to arrive at the Resort. It was a warm welcome from the staff most especially at the front desk who did a good job. The sky was clear and bright. I thought we deserve a sunblock for that day. A day before that, we were advised to check in at 3 PM  but the staff was so accommodating that we were allowed to check-in early in our Presidential Suite. This might not happen to everyone but just make sure to talk and ask the people working in the Resort for any possible arrangement.

So let's talk about this Presidential Suite! I'm excited about this part. It's a huge 160m2 suite with an overlooking view of the vast sea of Cordova, Mactan Cebu. It has two spacious bedrooms - one master bedroom in which Lyssa Amor and her bestie Lloyd Chua checked-in, while Kerr and I got the other bedroom with two separate beds which are good for sharing with family and friends and all beds, are clean and comfy. Each Bedroom got a bathroom (bathtub for master bedroom), private balcony, and separate living and sleeping areas. What's really good about Presidential Suite? They got a huge room for entertainment, kitchen and dining activity and oh, their interiors are lovely and adorable. I could not describe more but you can watch the video below for details.

Since it was late noon, we then headed to Earth Restaurant to grab some late lunch. This Resto never fails our taste buds. It was actually my second time at Earth and as usual, there's heaven on Earth. Good food with good people, what else you can ask for?

 We went back in our rooms after that two-hour lunch. Yes, you can judge us but we really enjoyed each others company with drinks and food. LOL, We spent the whole afternoon playing with our cameras and shooting good stuff at the Presidential Suite. We took a lot of shots at the bedrooms and entertainment room. Then we explored the huge vicinity of Solea Resort from the infinity and other big pools to the man-made lagoon - we really enjoyed the view. Also, here's a tip. Do not bring your floatie, for just PHP 100, you can already borrow a giant floatie from the reception which is good for an hour. They got a lot of choices - you can get a sweet donut and pretzel, adorable unicorn, bouncy pegasus, colorful slipper, sweet pineapple or yummy pizza. We ended the afternoon rush with a group picture at the famous #Solea sign. We headed back to our rooms to freshen up and of course, just stay and play with our beds. But I personally love the couch while watching TV and having a social media break. It was really a good life.

Not my first time on a Thanksgiving dinner with a huge number of Media and Blogger friends but during Resorts World Manila's version, I was lucky to share a Cantonese table with the Country's top Media and Bloggers personalities at Passion Restaurant of Maxim Hotel.

The special event was graced with some Entertainment personalities such as It's Showtime's Tawag Ng Tanghalan's Finalists Sam Mangubat and Froilan Canlas, Comedians Alex Calleja and much more. The event ended with a lot of Surprises and prizes from Resorts World Manila for all the members of the Media. 

Café Maxims lets guests create their own Christmas Gifts and Hampers until the New Year, while Asian fusion restaurant Ginzadon serves up its Japanese-Korean Unlimited for the whole month of November for only Php888 per person. CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

Our 2-day itinerary ended up with a bang! Not a fireworks display but with the world famous play, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (CCBB). I won't forget the playful characters of the show. There is Gian Magdangal who plays Caractacus Potts with his children Albert Silos and Isabeli Elizalde who play Jeremy and Jemima Potts respectively.But these main Characters who executed their roles passionately, are not the scene stealer of the show. Here's a spoiler, you should be prepared to laugh out loud with the characters of Mako Alonso and Reb Atadero. This beloved British family musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang runs from October 21 until November 12.

But if you miss CCBB, the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) is also set to present a torrent of OPM concerts for GFM starting off with Ogie Alcasid’s “The Soundtrack of My Life” concert on November 30; Bamboo on December 7; Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragosa’s anniversary concert on December 8; Manila Sound with Hotdog on December 13; and Aegis in “Ating Sayawin” on December 20.

On December 1, Starbucks will release a special collection inspired by local textiles and designed with fine materials including Swarovski® crystals and real white gold. The limited-edition items will be exclusively available in Starbucks 6750 at Ayala Avenue, where the Seattle brand first opened its doors.

If you wish to experience a futuristic city with fashionable people but yet traditionally inclined to live with some palaces and temples situated in the center of the metro, then you should go to Seoul. Together with five other officemates and friends of Timex Philippines, we enjoyed a short yet sweet and cold stay last weekend in Seoul, South Korea. It was then very memorable with the help of Oppo F3 Smartphone which lasted very strong even in a negative temperature weather.

For me, Seoul is more than just k-pop. Aside from the world-famous Korean Pop fever, South Korea has a lot to offer to all Tourists and Locals most especially in the 5th most populous city in the world, Seoul. For the first time, I was thrilled to witness a number or thousands of ice crystals as they fell down in the warm soil of the earth. Snow is different from rain for some various reasons. I agree with Kahlil Gibran, "Snow beautifies everything it covers". And that's how Seoul became magical to me.

With our 3-day stay in Seoul, It seemed that I lived there for a week already. We stayed at DH Myeongdong Guesthouse which is by the way very hospital and accommodating. They got free breakfast and can assist you to wherever you're planning to visit. The hostel is just a 10-15 minute walk going to Myeongdong Subway station so the commute is not a problem. And of course, a picture paints a thousand words so I'm presenting to you some amazing and magical photos of Seoul.

HOW TO GO TO NAMI ISLAND FROM MYEONGDONG (src: myeongdong.org)

The journey from Myeongdong Station to Gapyeong Station where Nami Island is located will take about 1 hour 30 minutes. As you need to change train line 3 times for this trip, it is not advisable to sleep or take a nap during this trip or you may miss the stations to change line.

With that said, let's get started with the journey to Nami Island:

1. From Myeong-dong Station, take LINE 4 train heading to the direction of Chungmuro Station to get to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station.
2. When arriving at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, change to LINE 2 and take the train heading towards Sindang Station to get to Wangsimni Station.
3. When arriving at Wangsimni Station, change to JUNGANG LINE and take the train heading towards Cheong-nyangni to get to Mangu Station.
4. When arriving at Mangu Station, change to KYEONGCHUN LINE and take the train heading towards Galmae Station to get to Gapyeong Station, which is our destination.

This train journey from Myeongdong to Gapyeong will cost you KRW 2250 (T-Money Card) or KRW2350 (Cash) one way.

From Gapyeong Station to Nami Island

1. Taxi - Once you are at Gapyeong Station, you need to take a short taxi trip (costs about KRW2500-3000) to get to the ferry wharf to Nami Island. 
2. Walk - You could also walk but it will take you 20-30 minutes and the direction to the ferry wharf is not straight forward. 
3. BUS - At Gapyeong Station, you can take the Shuttle Bus for Gapyeong Tourist Resort (Course A) to go to Nami Island. The bus ticket can be bought from the bus driver at costs KRW6,000. This ticket can be used UNLIMITED time for the whole day to go to all popular destinations on the bus route as below:  Gapyeong Intercity Bus Terminal <-> Gapyeong Station (Train Station) <-> Jarasum <-> Gapyeong Rail Park <-> Nami Island <-> Petite France <-> Cheongpyeong Bus Terminal <-> Cheongpyeong Station <-> The Garden of Morning Calm

Once arriving at the ferry wharf, proceed to the ticket booth to buy your "Entry Visa" to Nami Island which costs KRW8,000, which includes a ferry to and from Nami Island and, of course, entry to Nami Island.

During this festive week, different kinds of traditions and activities are being observed. Most Tourists reserve seats at the Grand Parade on the third Sunday of January. Some Locals chose to attend the Fluvial Parade which is happening on a Saturday. This Fluvial Procession is a very important tradition of Cebuanos as our dear Sto. Nino will be carried via Pumpboats decorated with flowers from Mandaue City to Cebu City. On the same day, Devotees will solemnly celebrate a long hour of the procession in the afternoon in the main street of Cebu City.

Having a 10-year relationship with someone means a lot to us. It carved something special to our heart and it gave wonderful experiences in our life. I know there is no perfect relationship, sometimes you failed your partner's expectations and sometimes your partner commit mistakes. But at the end, you never give up on each other. This is what I experience with my unique relationship with Cebu Bloggers Society. After all, this premier Blogging organization in Cebu was born on a love month, February 14, 2008, specifically. And on March 3, our grandest appreciation event will be held at Cebu Parklane International Hotelon a formal Gala night. Exciting my loves!

I just thank Rule65 Restaurant and Bar for hosting my 31st Birthday Dinner with my Blogger friends. We enjoyed their delectable and sumptuous Filipino Dishes which are perfect for this momentous event of my life.

Last weekend was the most memorable birthday celebration ever! Together with my co-Pisces Blogger friend, Etienne Chantal, we invited a number of innocent yet sweet angels from SOS Children's Village of Talamban to fete with us in an intimate yet joyful moment of our lives. With the help of Arlei Travel and Tours, the children arrived safely. As they entered inside the Jollitown of Jollibee Banilad, their smiles and excitements started to light up the room.

 A total of 20 chosen kids from SOS Talamban graced our Birthday celebration. Etienne was born on March 18 while my Natal day was on March 2, both of us were born while the sun is in Pisces. With the help of our friends from Jollibee Visayas, we were able to pull off the event without any hassle. Aside from the delicious and all time favorite dishes such as chicken joy and sweet spaghetti, the kids'greetings made it more special.

A set of games for the kids were exercised. Not to mention a special plot made by Jollibee's hospitable and accommodating host, who later made our Blogger Guests and friends joined the games. It was short yet a fulfilling moment to all of us. I wish to have another special occasion with these kids soon. Thanks Jollibee for everything.

About SOS Children's Village of Talamban

SOS Children's Villages is active in 133 countries and territories. The variety of this international work is brought together by the umbrella organisation SOS Children's Villages International, which unites all of the autonomous national associations.

The SOS Children's Village Cebu consists of twelve family houses, the Village Director's house, a community centre and a workshop, where some of the youths are trained in crafts. The smaller children are looked after at the SOS Kindergarten, which is also open to children from the neighbourhood. An SOS Youth Facility is affiliated to the project. The older boys from the SOS Children's Village usually move there in order to prepare for their independent lives. Some of them are still at school, college or university. Others are doing vocational training. The SOS Youth House was opened in 1990. It was renovated in 2000 and a new building was added then. The SOS Children's Village Cebu runs an agricultural project, where the young people can learn farming techniques.
